January 16, 2011 - 1 Cor. 1:1-9
This begins a 7 part series on the first 4 chapters of 1 Corinthians. The big idea that will guide us through this series is this: there is always a gap or distance between things which are ideal and that which is actual. Why is it that Christians, who are Gods people called to new life, very often don't live up to the holy ideals that we should? No other church in the New Testament exemplifies this 'distance' between the ideal and actual than Corinth. What does Paul have to say to them, and what fills the gap between the ideal and actual?
