Our Gospel reading for today, John 10:10, contains a remarkable promise from Jesus: that he has come to give life, and give it abundantly. Many people get a lot of 'bad mileage' out of this statement (like: God wants you to be rich). What exactly is the abundant life that Jesus was talking about and what does abundant life look like in a Christian life which very often is not full of comfort and riches? There are two primary characteristics which answer this question: suffering and joyful community.
